그래미상을 5번 받은 팝의 거장이

단 500석 규모의 소극장에서 공연을 갖는다고 해 화제가 됐었다.

마치 거대한 파도가 치는 소리를 연상케 했다.

4분가량 피아노로만 사운드 폭풍을 선사한 후

대표곡 '로켓맨'을 밴드 연주와 함께 본격적으로 쏘아 올리자 환호성이 울려퍼졌다.

27일 밤 서울 이태원 현대카드 언더스테이지에서 펼쳐진

'현대카드 큐레이티드 엘튼 존'은 작은 공연장에 쓴 대서사시였다.

존은 500명을 상대로 한 소극장 공연에서도

바다와 우주를 종횡무진하는 오디세이아 음악세계를 구현했다.

팝 거장은 '로켓맨'이라는 별명답게 일흔을 바라보는 나이에도

변함 없는 위엄을 자랑하며 무대를 쥐락펴락했다.

그가 소극장 규모의 무대에 오른 것은 데뷔 초를 제외하면

유례를 찾아보기가 힘들다.

직전 내한공연인 2012년 11월에는 올림픽공원 체조경기장 무대에 올랐다.

당시 8000여 명이 운집했다.

2012년 내한공연때 다녀왔는데 그때의 기억이 생각나서...
Crocodile Rock이나 Philadelphia Freedom 못지 않은 경쾌한 곡이며
그날 공연에서도 멋지게 불러 주었던 생각이 난다.
해외 뮤지션중 내가 좋아하는 세손가락 안에 드는 엘튼존.
다음 공한공연땐 꼭 가야지 싶은 마음으로...
